The holidays are a special time of year to gather with loved ones, celebrate the highs and lows of the year, and give back to local communities through charity. Part of what makes the holidays so meaningful is the memories spent sharing holiday meals together. But millions of U.S. residents who rely on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) are at risk of going hungry this holiday season because of the ongoing government shutdown, leaving children and families in need.
As of this blog’s publication, this shutdown is quickly on its way to becoming the longest shutdown in U.S. history. SNAP recipients, about 12% of the total U.S. population, won’t receive their benefits for November unless the federal government uses emergency funds. Whether or not this happens, this is a time to step up for our communities and help wherever and however we can.
We’re partnering with One Life, a Washington-based 501(c)(3) organization that helps feed and empower people to break the cycles of poverty, and matching up to $2,000 in donations to help feed 200 Clark County families for Thanksgiving. Please consider donating whatever you can to support the important work One Life and other food banks across the country are doing. Donate here.
If you’re able to give, you can help One Life supply a hungry family with a holiday meal for just $30. When you donate, the families we help will have one less thing to worry about during an already stressful time.
We’re living in a time of anxiety and crisis, and the most vulnerable populations are already suffering as a result. Food banks like One Life need your support now more than ever. It’s unclear whether and when the federal government will resume SNAP funding, but it’s time to step up and support hungry community members before a difficult situation worsens.

We thank you for supporting our local community here in Clark County and encourage you to spread the word and help us fight food insecurity this holiday season and beyond.
