Having trouble with BioSignature verification for your NMLS education course? Whether you need to reset your BioSig, aren't receiving the reset email, or can't get your BioSig to verify, there are several common causes.

The most important thing to know is that The Knowledge Coop cannot reset an MLO's BioSig password or BioSignature. BioSig is a third-party identity verification system, not a product owned or controlled by Knowledge Coop.

However, we can help MLOs troubleshoot account information and identify common issues that may prevent BioSig from working correctly.

Watch a sign-up tutorial here.

Can The Knowledge Coop Reset My BioSig?

No. The Knowledge Coop cannot reset an MLO's BioSig password or BioSignature.

BioSig is not a Knowledge Coop product, and we do not have access to BioSig's database or administrative tools. That means we cannot manually reset a BioSignature, change a BioSig password, or correct information stored directly within BioSig.

This is important because MLOs may encounter information from NMLS resources or customer service that appears to suggest their education provider can perform the reset.

While we cannot reset BioSig itself, The Knowledge Coop can help verify information on our side that may be preventing BioSig from correctly matching your account.

How Do I Reset My BioSig Password?

To initiate a BioSig reset, purposefully fail the BioSig verification three times. After three failed attempts, BioSig should send a reset email that allows you to create a new BioSignature/password.

Here’s how:

  1. Attempt your BioSig verification.
  2. Purposefully fail the verification.
  3. Repeat until you have failed three times.
  4. Look for the BioSig reset email.
  5. Follow the instructions in that email to create your new BioSignature/password.

Why Is My BioSig Reset Going to an Old Email Address?

A BioSig reset may be sent to an old email address when the identifying information being submitted does not correctly match the MLO's current record.

BioSig uses matching information to determine which record is associated with the reset request. A mismatch may cause the system to associate the request with older information.

Check the following carefully:

  • Last name, including multiple, maiden, or hyphenated last names
  • NMLS ID
  • Prefixes and suffixes
  • Spaces and hyphenation
  • Other name formatting
  • Current email address

Even a small discrepancy may prevent BioSig from finding the record you expect.

The Knowledge Coop cannot change the BioSig password itself, but we can help verify that an MLO's information in Knowledge Coop matches the appropriate NMLS information. Correcting an error on our side may allow BioSig to recognize the correct record and current email address.

Pay Special Attention to Your NMLS ID

Your NMLS ID must be entered correctly.

If you're having repeated BioSig problems, verify that the number entered as your NMLS ID is actually your NMLS ID and not another credential or number you commonly use.

A simple data-entry mistake can cause BioSig matching and verification problems.

Why Am I Not Receiving My BioSig Reset Email?

If your BioSig email address is correct but the password reset email isn't arriving, first check your spam or junk folder. Then check whether your company's email security, network, or VPN could be blocking the message.

If you're using a work email account or work computer, your organization's security policies may prevent BioSig emails from reaching your inbox.

Try these troubleshooting steps:

  1. Check your spam and junk folders.
  2. Search your inbox for BioSig.
  3. Verify that reply@biosig.com is allowed or whitelisted.
  4. Contact your company's IT team if messages are being blocked.
  5. If permitted by your organization's security policies, determine whether your VPN is interfering with delivery.

Why Does My BioSignature Keep Failing?

BioSig doesn't only evaluate which symbols you draw. It also analyzes characteristics of how you draw them.

Factors can include:

  • Speed
  • Direction
  • Angle
  • Stroke or movement patterns
  • Consistency between attempts

This means drawing a symbol that visually resembles your original symbol may not always be enough. You should try to reproduce the same symbol in the same way each time.

What Symbols Work Best for BioSig?

Simple, straight-line symbols are generally easier to reproduce consistently than complicated or rounded symbols.

Examples of easier-to-repeat symbols include:

7 · 1 · L · I · < · > · V · N · M · /

The goal isn't simply to create an easy symbol. It's to choose something you can reproduce with a similar shape, direction, positioning, and speed every time.

Avoid Repeating or Similar Symbols

Don't use repeating symbols or multiple symbols that look nearly identical.

Instead, make each symbol visually distinct so the BioSignature can be reproduced consistently.

Use the BioSig Grid as an Anchor

Use points on the BioSig grid as reference points for where you begin, change direction, and end each symbol.

For example, if you draw an L, try to begin and end the strokes at approximately the same grid locations every time.

Keep Your Drawing Speed Consistent

Try to draw each symbol at approximately the same speed each time.

BioSig verification considers more than the finished appearance of your BioSignature, so dramatically changing how quickly you draw it can make successful verification more difficult.

Does My Name Need to Match for BioSig?

Yes. Your identifying information needs to match correctly for BioSig to associate you with the appropriate record.

Pay particular attention to:

  • Hyphenated last names
  • Multiple last names
  • Maiden names
  • Prefixes
  • Suffixes
  • Spaces and formatting

Name matching can sometimes be complicated by limitations in how certain fields are represented within education-provider systems. If you believe your name is contributing to a BioSig problem, contact The Knowledge Coop so we can verify the information available on our side.

How Can I Avoid BioSig Problems?

When available, consider attending live mortgage education classes. Choosing live education can reduce your reliance on the BioSig verification process associated with certain online education experiences.

If you do need to use BioSig, your best approach is to keep things simple: use distinct symbols, use the grid as a reference, reproduce the same movements and speed, and make sure your identifying information is accurate.

BioSig Troubleshooting FAQ

  1. Can Knowledge Coop reset my BioSig? No. The Knowledge Coop cannot reset an MLO's BioSig password or BioSignature. BioSig is not a Knowledge Coop product, and we do not have administrative access to its database.
  1. How do I reset my BioSig? Fail BioSig verification three times to initiate the reset process. BioSig should then send a reset email that you can use to create a new BioSignature/password.
  1. Why is my BioSig reset going to my old email? A reset going to an old email can indicate that your identifying information is not matching the expected record. Verify your name, NMLS ID, prefixes, suffixes, and formatting.
  1. Why isn't my BioSig reset email arriving? Check your spam and junk folders first. If you're using a corporate email account, work computer, network, or VPN, check whether security policies are blocking the email. Your IT department may need to allow reply@biosig.com.
  1. Does my NMLS ID need to match BioSig? Yes. Your NMLS ID needs to be correct for BioSig account matching. Double-check the number if you're experiencing verification or reset problems.
  1. Why does BioSig reject my signature even when the symbols look correct? BioSig evaluates characteristics of how you draw the symbols, not simply what the finished symbols look like. Differences in speed, direction, angle, or movement may affect verification.
  1. What are the easiest BioSig symbols to use? Simple straight-line symbols such as 7, 1, L, I, <, >, V, N, M, and / can be easier to reproduce consistently. Avoid repeating symbols or symbols that look too similar.
